Pakistan spin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has accepted a three-month suspension for breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code after testing positive for Carboxy-THC.
The 32-year-old returned a positive result following a doping test conducted after Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 7
Carboxy-THC is classified as a Substance of Abuse under the ICC Anti-Doping Code. Carboxy-THC is primarily found in human urine, blood, and hair. It is the major inactive metabolite produced when the body processes THC (the main psychoactive compound in cannabis).
Nawaz admitted the anti-doping rule violation and established that the prohibited substance had been used outside competition and was unrelated to sporting performance.
He was consequently handed a three-month period of ineligibility, backdated to May 1, 2026, when he voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension.
However, the suspension will be reduced to one month if Nawaz successfully completes a substance of abuse rehabilitation program.
Nawaz has accepted the sanction and committed to completing the rehabilitation program. His provisional suspension has now been lifted after he served two and a half months of the suspension.
Provided that he completes the rehabilitation program to the ICC’s satisfaction, he will not be required to serve the remaining period of the three-month suspension.
Under the ICC Anti-Doping Code, Nawaz’s result from Pakistan’s T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands on February 7 has been disqualified.
His results from all subsequent matches played before May 1, 2026, have also been disqualified.
